What is paint correction and do I need it?
Paint correction is the process of removing surface defects from your vehicle's clear coat, including swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, oxidation and micro-marring. If your car's paint looks dull, hazy, or covered in fine scratches (especially visible in direct sunlight), paint correction will restore the gloss and clarity back to, or better than, showroom condition. Most vehicles benefit from at least a 1-step correction every 2-3 years.
What's the difference between a cut and polish and paint correction?
They're essentially the same thing. "Cut and polish" is the traditional term, while "paint correction" is the more modern, professional terminology. At Clean Car Collective, our 1-step service is a single-stage polish that removes light defects, while our 2-step cut and polish uses a heavier cutting compound followed by a finishing polish to tackle deeper scratches, water marks and oxidation for a higher level of correction.
How long does paint correction take?
A 1-step paint correction typically takes around 4-5 hours, while a full 2-step cut and polish takes approximately 8 hours. Times vary depending on vehicle size and the severity of paint defects. We'll always give you a realistic timeframe when you book.
How long does paint correction last?
The correction itself is permanent. Once defects are removed, they're gone. However, your paint will naturally accumulate new swirls and marks over time through washing and everyday use. To protect your freshly corrected paint and extend the results, we recommend following up with a ceramic coating, which provides long-term protection and makes maintenance much easier.
Will paint correction remove deep scratches?
Paint correction works on defects within the clear coat layer. Light to moderate scratches, swirl marks, water spots and oxidation are removed very effectively. Deep scratches that have cut through the clear coat and into the base coat or primer cannot be fully removed by polishing alone and may require touch-up paint or panel repair. We'll assess your paint during the booking process and be upfront about what's achievable.
Is paint correction worth it before selling my car?
Yes, in most cases it's one of the best investments you can make before listing your vehicle. First impressions matter enormously and a car with dull, swirl-marked paint will be perceived as poorly maintained even if mechanically it's in great shape. A professional cut and polish can meaningfully increase perceived value and help your car sell faster and for a better price.
Do you offer mobile paint correction in Christchurch?

What Do Our Clients Have To Say?
How It Works
Professional paint correction in Christchurch, done right every time.
Book Your Appointment
Get in touch via our online booking form or free quote request. Tell us your vehicle type, location, and what you're looking to achieve. We'll confirm availability and give you an accurate price based on your vehicle's size and condition.
Vehicle Inspection
Before we touch a panel, we carry out a thorough inspection of your paintwork under specialist lighting. This lets us identify the depth and severity of defects and determine the right correction process for your vehicle. We'll always be upfront about what's achievable.
Decontamination
We start with a full decontamination wash to remove surface dirt, iron fallout, tar, and bonded contaminants. This is a critical step that's often skipped elsewhere. Working on contaminated paint causes more defects, so we never skip it.
Paint Correction
Using professional-grade polishing systems and compounds, we work panel by panel to remove swirl marks, scratches, water spots and oxidation. For a 2-step correction, we cut first with a heavier compound then refine with a finishing polish to maximise gloss and clarity.
Final Inspection
Once correction is complete, we inspect every panel again under lighting to ensure a consistent, defect-free result. Your vehicle is then wiped down and prepped. If you're adding a ceramic coating, this is applied at this stage to lock in your freshly corrected paint.
Pickup or Delivery
Your car is ready to go. If you dropped it off at our Southwark Street workshop, we'll let you know the moment it's done. If you booked a mobile service, we leave your driveway clean and tidy with zero disruption to your day.
